The prototype shown at CEBIT 2018 demonstrates the potential of augmented reality during trade fair visits. Making improvements on orientation by fading in virtual orientation points, such as hall numbers, and on navigation by fading in direction indicators spatially correct solves one major pain point during trade fair visits. In addition the use of virtual gamification elements and exhibitor information adds an engaging new information layer for the visitor.

The starting point for the entire application is the virtual map table of the exhibition grounds placed in real space using AR. Context-sensitive information is provided on a display above the orientation map. The gamification elements and special promotion videos are docked to the map table. The own position is always shown in the middle of the map.

Virtual objects were hidden on the entire exhibition grounds as a playful element of exploration, which could be collected and exchanged for prizes by the participating partner companies on the exhibition grounds.

After selecting a destination on the orientation map, a permanent navigation arrow was displayed. Smaller arrows in contrasting colours mark the location of virtual exhibitor information in the immediate vicinity.
